Bioenergy Association

The Bioenergy Association of New Zealand (BANZ) is the national industry body representing the bioenergy sector in Aotearoa. It works to accelerate the use of renewable energy from organic materials—such as wood residues, agricultural waste, and biogas—to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and support a low-emissions economy. BANZ connects energy producers, technology providers, researchers, and policymakers, helping to build a coordinated and scalable bioenergy ecosystem across the country.

Beyond advocacy, the association plays a practical role in enabling transition. It provides industry standards, market insights, and guidance to businesses and local governments looking to adopt bioenergy solutions—particularly in sectors like process heat, where electrification alone may not be viable. By promoting sustainable forestry residues and circular resource use, BANZ positions bioenergy as both a climate solution and an economic opportunity for regional New Zealand.
